The Meadow Lake RCMP detachment has released statistics from the past two years, showing a reduction gang and gun violence.

The release distributed this week showed that as of March 15, the detachment handled 7,512 files, ranging in severity from frauds to homicides. From Oct. 1, 2020, to March 15, 2021, police handled 66 firearm complaints, which dropped to 30 calls in the same time period the next year.

Several arrests made in 2021 with assistance from North Battleford GIS helped to dismantle one of the gangs. Some of the names include Brendan Yew, Christopher Nolan, Raheem Hagan and Christopher Ernest; arrested for a variety of offences, such as possession, trafficking and weapons charges.

In the release, S/Sgt Ryan How highlighted improving communication with the communities they serve. Some of the initiatives taken include a Str8 Up gang presentation, which involved city council, and the detachment will soon have a Crime Reduction Team placed in Meadow Lake.
