Meadow Lake couple wins $100,000

A local couple from Meadow Lake has won $100,000.

Late in April, Donald McCallum and Darlene Matchee were having a normal day when they went to pick up a LOTTO MAX ticket for the draw that evening. Adding the EXTRA to the purchase at Meadow Lake Co-op proved critical, matching the last six digits of the winning number.

When they checked it weeks later after they returned to the Co-op, McCallum was reportedly not even aware of what happened as the machine scanning the ticket made a noise.

“Donald wasn’t paying attention,” Matchee laughed. “He had to ask if we won.”

McCallum thought he won $10,000, so he called over another employee to get a second set of eyes. After hearing what the employee had said, Matchee ran over.

“I didn’t even finish paying for my groceries,” she recalled as the couple claimed their prize.

“I thought I would have been screaming and hopping as they do on game shows,” Matchee laughed. “But I wasn’t like that – I just said ‘no way!’ when I realized it was real.”

McCallum told Sask Lotteries that he was stunned.

“I never thought I would win that amount,” McCallum said. “I’ve never seen that much money in my life. After that, I couldn’t sleep!”
