Two companies fined for workplace injury
Two companies recently pleaded guilty to safety violations in Meadow Lake Provincial Court.
Norsask Forest Productions Inc. and RYTT Contracting Ltd. pleaded guilty to a contravening clause of the 1996 Occupational Health and Safety Regulations on May 25. This refers to being an employer and failing to ensure that a worker is trained in all matter necessary to protect the health and safety of the worker when they begin work, which results in serious injury.
Both companies were fined for the same workplace incident, which occurred on Oct. 7, 2019 near Meadow Lake. A worker sustained serious injuries after their glove became entangled in the chain of a sprocket.
Norsask was fined $71,428.57, plus a surcharge of $28,571.43, for a total fine of $100,000. Four additional charges were stayed.
