The Western Association of Broadcasters (WAB) awarded Pattison Media Saskatchewan with two prestigious awards at its 86th annual conference in Banff, Alberta Thursday night.

The Gold Medal Awards are presented to WAB member stations for outstanding contributions to the Canadian broadcasting industry in the areas of community service or digital innovation.

The news team of paNOW.com received a Gold Medal Award for Community Service because of their ongoing coverage on the issue of homelessness in the city. The stories they told helped to initiate a dialogue that would benefit the community. Following several news reports, the City of Prince Albert announced a Homelessness Action Initiative.

Pattison Media’s HuskieFAN also received a Gold Medal Award for Digital Innovation.

The private broadcaster became the first in Canada to commit to broadcasting a full season of women’s university hockey (University of Saskatchewan) on the radio and though an app using an all female play-by-play crew. The new HuskieFAN app and portal also broadcasts men’s hockey and football games and provides news coverage on all other USports not typically available about amateur athletes.
