Meadow Lake Sox aiming for late-season win streak

Jun 23, 2022 | 5:06 PM

As the baseball season nears playoff competition in Saskatchewan, the Meadow Lake Sox have critical games ahead.

The club takes on the St. Walburg Reds Thursday night, hoping to kick-start a winning streak heading into the weekend. Yesterday, the Sox won in a shutout 8-0 over the Unity Junior Cardinals to get back above .500 on the season and rebound from a 3-1 loss to Standard Hill on Tuesday. This has them sitting sixth overall in the North Saskatchewan River Baseball League (NSRBL).

Following Thursday’s contest, Meadow Lake has three games remaining, which include matchups with the Kindersley Stallions and the Lloydminster Twins. These teams sandwich the Sox in the NSRBL standings, with Kindersley having an identical record, but ahead via a tiebreaker.

At the plate, Brett Esau and Joe Merasty sit third and fourth respectively in RBIs, while Merasty is tied for second in home runs and Esau is second in hitting percentage at .579. Dylan Esau has been key for the team on the mound, picking up a win and a save in four games, with an ERA of 1.31.
