Meadow Lake Food Bank busy after renovations

Nov 29, 2022 | 12:33 PM

The Meadow Lake Food Bank is now serving clients from a more efficient and cleaner space after a major renovation.

Old wooden shelves were replaced with metal ones, and walls were painted. Perhaps the most significant improvement is a poured epoxy floor over top of an old cement floor that always appeared dirty. Meadow Lake Outreach Ministries runs the food bank.

During the renovations, the food bank operated from a sea container to minimize client impact. They closed for about a week during the final stages of renovations and the move back into the space.

Meadow Lake Outreach Ministries Executive Director Natanis Bundshuh said the renovated space is much better.

“When they go to do hampers, they literally just have to do just one walk down, and one corner, instead of all over the place.” Bundschuh said. “They did 20 hampers in about 15 minutes the other day.”

The efficiencies are welcomed news for the food bank. In 2021, they prepared, on average, close to 50 hampers every week and provided 108,933 pounds of food to those in need. Bundschuh said they’re going to see more clients.

“The demand is going to continue to increase through the winter too,” she said.

The food bank is always looking for donations. Cash donations are preferred so they can purchase what they need. For donors who like to give food, their website lists foods they can currently use.
