Freezing rain warnings in effect for parts of Saskatchewan

Jan 14, 2023 | 1:00 PM

Environment Canada issued freezing rain warnings Saturday for parts of Saskatchewan.

The warnings cover the areas around Lloydminster, Meadow Lake, the Battlefords, and the surrounding areas.

“Freezing rain will move through the area during the early afternoon hours causing very icy conditions,” the weather service said in a statement.

“A stagnant band of freezing rain continues north of the North Battleford region up towards Meadow Lake late this morning. The freezing rain will move slowly eastward over the next few hours before tapering off.”

On Friday, Environment Canada warned of snow and freezing rain that is expected to hit the province this weekend.

“We are going to see a weather system move through over the weekend and that’s going to bring some snow to central and northern Saskatchewan and some freezing rain to much of southern Saskatchewan,” Environment Canada meteorologist Terri Lang said Friday. “I think the southwest will probably escape it.”

Lang reminded drivers to check the Highway Hotline for the latest information on road conditions before heading out on the highways.
