Police recover guns, stolen items in property crime investigations

RCMP in Meadow Lake have made several arrests involving two separate property crime investigations.

Around 5 p.m. on Friday, officers received a report of a break-in at a residence in Meadow Lake.

A homeowner heard a noise and found an unknown male in their home. The stranger fled in a vehicle, which police later stopped.

After arresting the man, police located a large number of items believed to be stolen.

Those included sporting goods, collectables and electronics. The vehicle the man was driving was reported stolen out of Edmonton on Feb. 1.

A 35-year-old Cold Lake man was charged with break and enter, two counts of possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, two counts of failing to comply with a release order condition and possession of break-in instruments.

He was scheduled to appear in Meadow Lake Provincial Court on Monday. Officers are still working to locate where the stolen items originated from.

Later that night, police received an unrelated robbery report at a home in Meadow Lake. The investigation determined a group of men had approached a residence where one man pointed a firearm at the house and demanded something from someone inside.

The men then left from the scene in a vehicle. Police believe the incident was not random.

Mounties located the suspect vehicle at a residence in Meadow Lake. They located a firearm and three men were arrested at the home. With help from the Saskatchewan RCMP Crime Reduction Team, a search warrant was executed at the house and officers found and seized property obtained by the robbery. They also located a second firearm among other weapons.

A 32-year-old man, 22-year-old man and a 25-year-old man from Meadow Lake were each charged with robbery with a firearm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, possession of a firearm without a licence, possession of a firearm with a defaced serial number, and resisting arrest.

The 25-year-old suspect is charged with possession of a firearm and two counts of possession of a firearm contrary to order.

The suspects are set to appear in Meadow Lake Provincial Court on Feb. 6.
