Meadow Lake gets ready for Canada Day festivities

Jun 30, 2023 | 1:10 PM

Meadow Lake will have lots to do to celebrate Canada Day on Saturday.

“It’s a fairly informal day that everybody can celebrate however they choose to celebrate Canada Day,” Mayor Merlin Seymour told meadowlakeNOW.

All the fun takes place at Lions Park which starts with a free pancake breakfast picnic at 10 a.m. by the concessions stand. People are asked to bring their own picnic blankets.

Minor softball games are also planned during the day from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the ball diamonds. A chance for the community to stop by to take in some of the action.

“If you see kids out playing ball, just stop in and have a look,” Seymour said.

The day will also include a variety of games and activities for the kids, as well as glitter tattoos, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Wrestling demonstrations are also on the agenda, taking place at the amphitheatre – from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. and in the evening from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

To wrap up the day, fireworks are scheduled to start at 10:30 p.m.

Provincial Park fun

Meadow Lake Provincial Park has a number of events lined up to kick off Canada Day from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday.

“Join us for a full day of activities, games and crafts to celebrate Canada Day with Sask Parks,” the organization said on its website.

Events are free with a valid park entry permit.

From 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., visitors can enjoy cake and cupcakes to start off the fun.

From 1 p.m. to 6 p.m., they can participate in some games, get a Canada Day temporary tattoo, and take part in a Canada Day bingo game at the Welcome Tent.

Then, from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., it’s Art Hour. People can make their own firework art using shaving cream.

From 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.: Beach Relays Race gets underway. Participants race against teams to be the first to complete the Sask Parks Obstacle Race. The fastest team to complete the course wins.

From 3 p.m. to 4 p.m., it’s Art Hour again: Participants can create their own customized Canadian Beaver keychain.

Later from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.: the Second Annual Canuck Quest gets going. This is the main event of the evening. People can use the clues and directions, and venture through the park on a quest to discover Canadian treasure.
