Payments due

City of Meadow Lake issues property tax notices

Jul 14, 2023 | 1:59 PM

The City of Meadow Lake is advising residents to look out for property tax notices in their mail.

Property tax payments are due July 31 so people will need to get ready to make sure they pay their taxes on time.

A penalty of one per cent will be added to all outstanding taxes on Aug. 1, and each subsequent month – September, October, November and December. The City notes that a penalty of nine per cent is added on January 1 each year to all outstanding tax balances.

Mayor Merlin Seymour urges property owners to stay on track of their payments owing.

“If for some reason they can’t be paid on time, there will be a small penalty applied on a monthly basis for the outstanding amount,” he said. “So, if your taxes are due, it’s not a surprise. They are due at the end of July without any further penalty. Then, after that, there is a small penalty for not paying by then.”

For those who are having a hard time managing their bills and can’t pay all at once, the City also has a program called TIPPS, the Tax Installment Payment Plan Service.

“We have the TIPPS program. It’s set up at City Hall,” Seymour said.

The program allows ratepayers to have monthly payments automatically withdrawn from their bank accounts, instead of needing to make a lump sum payment.

“If you are using the TIPPS service, there are no late penalties charged for the monthly instalment payments made after July 31,” the City said on its website.

For more details on TIPPS, people can complete an application form available on the City’s website.
