Northern athletes bring home more medals at North American Indigenous Games

The medals just keep on coming for Team Saskatchewan at the 2023 North American Indigenous Games in Halifax.

On Tuesday, a flurry of medals was won in athletics including a gold medal for Dreyten Bugler-Cann of Red Pheasant First Nation in the 100-metre race. Fellow community member Jimmy Reed took home a bronze in the 800 metres.

Alyssa Poitras of Battleford claimed silver in the high jump.

Elena Deschambeault added to her gold medal win on Monday with a silver performance in the MC1 6000-metre race.

Sticking with the canoe/kayak events, Serge and Rustin Custer of Deschambeault Lake won a bronze in the MC 2 6,000-metre 19 U male race while Embry Roberts and Klayton Linklater of Pelican Narrows won a silver in the MC2 6,000-metre for 19U mix.

After two days of competition, Saskatchewan has nine gold medals, 14 silver and nine bronze.
