Meadow Lake RCMP gear up for Fifth Annual Charity Golf Tournament

Jul 20, 2023 | 6:35 PM

The Meadow Lake RCMP will be on the green this Saturday for the Fifth Annual Charity Golf Tournament fundraiser at the Meadow Lake Golf Course.

RCMP Cpl. Jared Rau is inviting people in the community to sign up to take part and show their support for a good cause. All proceeds will benefit the Gateway Regional Victim Services .

“It’s a victim services [organization] in Meadow Lake that covers our area mostly, but also goes out to Loon Lake, Pierceland, [and the surrounding area],” Rau said. “They are always out and about. Every time there is something going on, they are making sure everybody is doing ok and has the support needed for their assistance. Being that they are a non profit, we are trying to help them out.”

The tee off for the game will be at 9 a.m. for the shotgun start.

“It will be a little earlier than most,” Rau said. “We’ve had them a little later in the day for other tournaments. But we’ve had to move it up because of the amount of people who usually show up for our tournaments, just to get everybody through.”

People can register as a team of four or individually by calling the Pro Shop at the Meadow Lake Golf and Country Club. People can also just come on the day of the event and register then. The cost is $100 per person.

Everyone who registers will receive a $25 meal ticket, which can be used at the restaurant on the course.

Prizes will be available for some lucky teams, such as for the Best Team and the Most Honest Team.

Prizes will also be handed out for other categories, including The Longest Putt and The Longest Drive.

The tournament will wrap up around 3 p.m. Then, the prize winners will be announced. The silent auction will get underway and raffle prizes given out at about 5 p.m.

Many area businesses and organizations are sponsoring the event to show their support by donating prizes for the winners.

“There are some pretty solid Hole-In-One prizes, if you are lucky enough to get a hole-in-one on one of the Par 3s,” Rau said.

He noted the Meadow Lake RCMP are looking forward to hosting the tournament again this year and seeing everyone come out to participate.

“We are always trying to give back to Meadow Lake and the community,” he said. “This is a good way for people in the community to come out and see police officers in a different light, see them outside of uniform…This allows them to see us in a more positive light, and show that we’re just normal people, while raising funds for a worthy cause.”
