RCMP Charity Golf Tourney raises $8,500 for Regional Victim Services

Meadow Lake RCMP held their fifth Annual Charity Golf Tournament earlier this summer, July 22 at Meadow Lake Golf Course, with all proceeds going towards Gateway Regional Victim Services.

More than 90 people came out to participate in this year’s tournament, with more than 50 sponsors from local area businesses.

All total, the event raised $8,500 with 100 per cent of proceeds being donated to the Regional Victim Services, which looks after Meadow Lake and the surrounding area, including Big River, Blaine Lake, Green Lake, Loon Lake, and Pierceland, among others.

Cpl. Jared Rau with the Meadow Lake RCMP said Victim Services is a cause whose impact in the community the RCMP know first-hand.

“They’re always on-call, coming out to help us when we’re at a call that requires their assistance,” he said. “This helps them purchase things for families in need, gets them more training, or whatever they need. Whatever they feel can help serve them to serve our communities.”

He said this year’s golf tournament wouldn’t have been the success it was without the wide-ranging support of so many businesses and people who helped out through sponsorships and participation.

“It was a great turnout, and it was great to see all the people from this community come out and support our cause and support the charity,” he said. “Being this is the fifth year, we’ve found a lot of the same companies donate which is wonderful to see and it really shows they are behind us in trying to better the community.”

Gateway Regional Victim Services provides care and resources to victims of reported crime, unreported crime, traumatic events, and others who are vulnerable. This may include, for example: child abuse victims, victims of domestic violence or sexual assault, seniors whose homes have been broken into, and Indigenous people who are disproportionately victimized by crime.
