No Frills opening new location in Meadow Lake

One of Canada’s biggest grocery chains is coming to Meadow Lake.

No Frills is replacing Extra Foods 9th Street whose last day in operation will be this Saturday.

Amy Davidson, owner and operating of the store which will be called Amy and Brendan’s No Frills, told meadowlakeNOW she previously served as the general manager of Cold Lake’s location.

When she heard they were opening a store in Meadow Lake, she jumped at the opportunity.

“Because the markets are so similar, I knew this store would be right up my alley. Same demographic and same type of market,” she said.

Her family arrived in the community in early September. They’ve been overseeing Extra Foods ever since, using their free time to explore the city.

“My husband is very much an outdoors guy… this community is fantastic and we’re really happy to be here,” said Davidson.

Despite Extra Foods 9th Street still being operational, renovations are currently happening. The recognizable No Frills sign hasn’t been put up though the outside of the building is already becoming much more yellow, the chain’s primary colour.

The grand opening is set for Oct. 5 with doors opening at 8 a.m.

Meanwhile, Davidson noted there currently aren’t any additional jobs being added.

However, this could change at any time.

“If there are any additional opportunities they will be posted to our Facebook page as well as in-store so our customer base will be aware when openings are available.”
