Emergency shelter officially opens in Meadow Lake

Under an azure-blue sky, members of the Homeplate Shelter Coalition, Meadow Lake Tribal Council (MLTC), and Meadow Lake dignitaries officially opened the long-awaited community emergency shelter.

“It’s very important,” said Mayor Merlin Seymour.

“Some people just don’t have the opportunity to have a warm place to sleep at night in the wintertime.”

The ongoing project was completed earlier this year but was able to officially open after a donation from the MLTC.

The shelter has the capacity to support 20 people at a time.
