City of Meadow Lake prepares budget

Meadow Lake city council is busy working on its budget for 2024.

The proposed document is expected to be ready to be voted on at council’s upcoming meeting.

“[We are] hoping to be able to adopt the capital and operating budget on Dec. 11,” Mayor Merlin Seymour said in an email to meadowlakeNOW.

In other news, the city’s recreation facility project is coming along well.

“[It’s] on schedule at this point,” Seymour said.

The City of Meadow Lake announced in March it was progressing in its preliminary planning stages for its new Recreation and Civic Centre complex (arena).

The rec facility, to be located beside where the old arena used to be, will feature a new arena with a full NHL-sized ice surface, a core area for administration space and city hall activities, a field house, and possibly an event centre. The project will start with the arena in the first phase.

Seymour confirmed the groundwork for the new recreation facility began in May.

“They are currently in the process of standing up the pre-engineered trusses,” he said of the work.
