Multiple Sask. communities receive over 30 cm of snow during weekend storm

To say there was a lot of snow over the weekend across Saskatchewan would be an understatement.

According to Environment and Climate Change Canada, multiple communities received over 30 cm with some of the lighter areas still getting around 10 cm.

Meteorologist Justin Shelley said you can see a line of where the brunt of the storm hit.

“It looks like areas between North Battleford and Saskatoon likely saw in excess of 30 cm of snow.”

Areas like Wilkie and Eatonia received around 35 cm with Saskatoon getting close to 40 cm. North Battleford ended up getting close to 20 cm, while the Prince Albert area got over 10 cm.

Shelley explained these areas are forecasted to get some additional snow over the next couple of days.

“At this point in time, we’re not anticipating any significant precipitation… perhaps an additional couple of centimetres at this point.”

The snow should also start to disappear nearly as quickly as it fell. Many areas including Prince Albert, North Battleford, and Saskatoon are expected to see plus temperatures during the next weekend.

Until then, it will remain quite cold as the temperature will hover in the minus 10 degrees. Shelley added there’s a decent chance Environment and Climate Change Canada will issue some cold warnings late on Monday as the overnight lows are expected to peak over -30 C.
