MORE JOB ACTION

Lunch-hour supervision withdrawn in several divisions over next two days

Mar 18, 2024 | 6:30 AM

The latest round of teacher sanctions takes place Monday and Tuesday as lunch-hour supervision is being cancelled.

On Monday, three school divisions are affected including the North East School Division, which means many schools will likely end 40-50 minutes earlier.

On Tuesday, a handful of other divisions will be impacted by no lunch-hour supervision. This includes schools in the Living Sky School Division, Light of Christ Catholic Schools, Sakewew High School, Northern Lights School Division and Île-à-la-Crosse School Division.

This new slate of job action comes after the provincial government rejected an invitation from the Saskatchewan Teachers Federation to go to binding arbitration to have class size and complexity in their contract.

“The Minister continues to insist this issue cannot be part of a provincial collective bargaining agreement; however, a conciliator’s report released in January validated teachers’ position that class size and complexity can be articles for negotiation as they relate to teachers’ working conditions. Any issue can be sent to binding arbitration as long as both sides agree to the process,” the STF said on its website announcing the job sanctions.
