Kinsmen Rodeo ready to kick off in North Battleford

Apr 22, 2024 | 3:53 PM

Put on your cowboy boots and 10-gallon hat. The rodeo is back in the Battlefords.

The 52nd annual North Battleford Kinsmen Indoor Rodeo will run this Friday and Saturday with performances starting at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday beginning at 1:30 p.m. at the Access Communications Centre.

“We are looking forward to it,” organizing committee chair Heath Gabruch said. “It’s going into our 52nd year, so it’s a long-standing tradition in the community. We’re excited about getting things going and having another rodeo this weekend.”

Last year, the event sold out, so Gabruch reminds people to get their tickets when the doors open.

“Last year we had 2,000 plus people for each performance on all three days,” he said. “We’re hoping that we can do that again. Come early. The doors will open an hour before the performance time each day, so come early and get a good seat.”

The event is also a fundraiser for the Kinsmen club in North Battleford.

“It supports different organizations, groups and projects in the community, and has for many, many years, as long as the Kinsmen have been around,” Gabruch said. “We’ll continue to do that with the proceeds from this year.”

Some of the highlights of the rodeo include the Alberta-based Gringo Bullfighting show Friday night and Saturday night after the main performances.

“There will be three bullfighters going up against the bull, and see who manages to acquire the most points,” Gabruch said. “There’ll be prize money up for the bullfighter that has the most points.”

Other highlights include kids’ day running Friday night and Sunday afternoon.

“It’s always exciting, and we’ll have a bunch of prizes for the kids,” Gabruch said.

Then, some of the other fun events at the show include the crowning of the Kinsmen Rodeo Queen on Sunday afternoon.

As well, on Friday and Saturday, kids will have some fun taking part in the wild pony rides.

Gabruch is encouraging everyone to take in the shows.

“We hope that we see lots of people come out this weekend,” he said.
