Man charged following murder, arson in La Loche

A 49-year-old man is in police custody following an incident in La Loche that saw a woman killed and a senior citizen hospitalized in Saskatoon.

At around 2:30 am on Wednesday morning, police were called to a residence in La Loche for a reported altercation.

Upon arrival, officers found smoke and flames coming from inside the home and when they entered, they found an injured 52-year-old woman and an injured 82-year-old man. La Loche and Clearwater River Dene Nation fire departments were called to the scene and extinguished the blaze.

Brenda Toulejour, age 52, was rushed to hospital in La Loche where she died and the 81-year-old man was transported to hospital in Saskatoon where his current condition in unknown.

Following the investigation from Sask. RCMP Major Crimes, police arrested and charged 49-year-old Marty Keith Toulejour of La Loche with one count of second-degree murder in connection to the death of Brenda Toulejour. Additionally, he was also charged with one count each of attempted murder, aggravated assault, and arson.

He was remanded into custody and appeared in La Loche court on Thursday morning.
