Sep 28, 2024 | 10:42 AM

The man who was found badly beaten outside of a home on Makwa Sahgaiehcan First Nation earlier this week has succumbed to his injuries in hospital.

RCMP issued the update on Friday at around 10:30 p.m. and have since identified the victim as 35-year-old Shoshone Morningchild of Makwa Sahgaiehcan First Nation. Police are releasing his name in an effort to draw tips from the public and further the investigation.

At around 9:00 a.m. Monday, Loon Lake RCMP were called to a home on the reserve for a report of a serious assault. Upon arrival, RCMP along with EMS found a severely injured Morningchild outside of the residence and rushed him to hospital. His death is considered suspicious.

Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes and General Investigation Sections have since taken over the investigation, while the Saskatchewan Coroners Service has also been engaged and an autopsy has been ordered.
