Fatal fire at Clearwater River Dene Nation claims two lives including teenage girl

Saskatchewan RCMP are confirming a teenage girl was among two people killed as a result of a house fire at Clearwater River Dene Nation.

Tuesday morning, at approximately 5:30 a.m., La Loche RCMP received a report of the residential fire.

One person was transported for medical care and was later declared deceased. She has been identified as a teenaged girl.

Another individual, who has yet to be formally identified, was located deceased in the residence.

Fire investigators with the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency are en route to investigate the fire’s cause and origin.

As this is not a police investigation, RCMP have no further information to share at this time.

A crisis team at the First Nation is helping provide support for the grieving community.
