Christmas Spirit

The community that keeps on giving; local Christmas event round-up

Dec 12, 2024 | 4:00 PM

As the weather gets colder and the winter season rolls around, people often come together in the name of Christmas spirit to give back and make a difference in the community. And for the Battlefords and surrounding areas, they are no exception.

The Battlefords North Stars and Community Safety Officers ‘Pack the Patrol Unit’ event raised more than $3,000 and 2,500 pounds of pet food for the Humane Society. Another $14,600 and 3,340 pounds of food was raised for the Battlefords District Food and Resource Centre (BDFRC) with the RCMP’s ‘Fill the Cruiser’ event.

Now with Christmas just two weeks away, time is slowly winding down but there are still lots of fundraisers and other jolly events going on in the community people can be a part of:

Tickets for Toys

On from Dec. 2 Dec. 20, the City of North Battleford is allowing people to pay for their parking tickets with a donation of a new toy equal to the value of your ticket. All you have to do is bring the toy with purchase receipt to City Hall (toy weapons won’t be accepted) when paying for your ticket. All donations will be used for hampers distributed by the BDFRC.

Cram the Ambulance

Put on by WPD Ambulance, bins are placed at businesses around town and asked to be filled with toy donations that will be crammed into ambulances and brought to the BDFRC for their Empty Stocking Fund. The deadline to make your donations is Dec. 18 and if you aren’t able to make it to a business, you can take your donation to the WPD Ambulance office at 10013A Thatcher Avenue.

Battlefords Carol Festival

Happening Dec. 17, at 6:30 p.m. at the Third Avenue Church. You can enjoy a night of great Christmas caroling from local choirs and musicians. The event is free to attend but donations will be accepted at the door and all proceeds will go to the BDFRC.

Loraas Community Food Drive

Loraas, in partnership with the BDFRC is doing a large Christmas food hamper along with collecting new gifts for children. On Dec. 20, Santa’s Sleigh towed by Loraas will drive through town alongside the BDFRC truck collecting the donations across the Battlefords.
