Staff at the Saskatchewan Penitentiary near Prince Albert have seized over $260,000 worth of contraband, including meth.

On December 13, the vigilance of staff members resulted in the discovery of meth, a cell phone and a charger that are worth $263,000 inside the medium level prison.

Police and the federal institution are investigating.

This discovery is less than two weeks after three men were arrested for using a drone to tow meth and contraband into the jail.

So far, the amount of illegal items that have been caught being taken into the penitentiary is valued in the tens of millions.

Staff said previously that drones have become a serious concern.

Tools at staff’s disposal include scanners and drug-detector dogs that can search the grounds and people.

A telephone tip line has been created for all federal institutions to report suspicious activity, such as drug use or trafficking.

The toll-free number, 1‑866‑780‑3784, helps ensure that the information shared is protected and that callers remain anonymous.
