Updated: Road conditions around Meadow Lake

Travel is not being recommended on highways surrounding Meadow Lake Thursday evening.

Shortly after 8 p.m., the Saskatchewan Highway Hotline website reported heavy snow, drifting or blowing snow and reduced visibility on Hwy 55 and Hwy 4. All other area highways reported similar conditions:

MEADOW LAKE:

Green Lake: Travel Not Recommended, Poor Visibility, Heavy Snow, Snow Packed, Snow Drifts and Drifting Snow

Highway 21 (West Junction Highway 3 to Peck Lake): Travel Not Recommended, Reduced Visibility, Loose Snow and Swirling Snow

Highway 26 (St.Walburg to Loon Lake): Travel Not Recommended, Reduced Visibility, Loose Snow and Swirling Snow

Environment Canada issued a snowfall warning for Meadow Lake Thursday afternoon. Total amounts of 10 to 15 cm are expected along with northwest winds gusting to 60 km/h.

The snow is expected to taper off by Friday morning.

Drivers are being encouraged to stay off the roads until conditions improve.

If you must travel, Public Safety Canada reminds motorists to make sure they are prepared for an emergency with supplies, including a First Aid kit, water and food, flashlight, warm clothes, proper footwear and a shovel.
