Major temperature rollercoaster hits Sask.

Jan 20, 2025 | 8:50 AM

Buckle up. The forecast is taking Saskatchewanians on a wild ride over the next 24 hours.

Environment Canada has issued an extreme cold warning for the entire province, except for a small pocket near La Loche. Wind chill values near -45 C are expected Monday as a bitterly cold Arctic airmass remains over the region. The normal highs for this time of year is -13 C.

By Tuesday, however, the province will see a 20 degree jump in temperatures. The forecast is calling for highs of -3 C in Prince Albert and Meadow Lake. North Battleford and Melfort will see highs of -4 C and reach highs of 0 C by Thursday when there is also snow in the forecast.

Frostbite can develop within minutes on exposed skin, especially with wind chill. The weather agency reminded the public to keep emergency supplies in your vehicle such as extra blankets and jumper cables and said if it’s too cold for you to stay outside, it’s too cold for your pet to stay outside.
