Over 1,000 bags.

That’s how many Share the Warmth Days were able to be handed out in communities across the province for its 30th anniversary.

This year, events were held in Prince Albert, Saskatoon, Swift Current, Weyburn and Yorkton over January and February and celebrated charities “that have made a lasting impact on vulnerable individuals and families” through programs funded by SaskEnergy’s Share the Warmth program.

“The success of Share the Warmth Days is a testament to the dedication of staff and volunteers who came together to connect vulnerable individuals with their communities. By handing out essential items, serving hot meals, and providing important services, they helped ensure that those in need felt supported and cared for,” says Allix Schweitzer, SaskEnergy’s Supervisor of Community Engagement via a news release.

According to the release, the bags are filled with essential items and handed out to those in need. 106 organizations received grants, which this year totalled $100,000. In the Battlefords, Empty Stocking Fund Inc, Crochet Knit and Knatter, Rivers Edge Quilters and the Canadian Mental Health Association Battlefords Branch were recipients.

In the Meadow Lake area, the recipients were Meadow Lake Outreach Ministries INC., ML Homeplate Shelter Coalition Corp., and Transition Place Education Centre. In Lloydminster, grants went to the Spark Foundation of Lloydminster and the Focus Society of Support Services. Meanwhile, in La Ronge and surrounding areas, Lac La Ronge Food Bank Inc., and Bring2Life Creative Counselling were recipients.

Some of the STW projects include teaching people to knit, cook healthy meals and supplying children with warm clothes.
