Meadow Lake unveils rental rates for new $52M Co-op Centre ahead of fall opening

Apr 10, 2025 | 1:20 PM

The long-awaited Co-op Centre is gearing up for a grand opening this fall, and with it comes a revamped set of rental rates and policies designed to keep the multi-use facility accessible and bustling with activity.

The recently adopted Policy 500-15-002, revised as of March 24, outlines the facility’s operation, use, and rental fees. These changes were crafted by the city’s parks and recreation staff and adopted by council after comparing similar facilities across Saskatchewan.

“We want to ensure that this facility is kept busy and with that, keeping our rates at a reasonable cost so we can get as much participation as we can within whether it be the arena or the field house,” said Meadow Lake Mayor Merlin Seymour.

Arena rates

The city’s new arena, part of the Co-op Centre, will reopen for the first time since 2021 following the loss of the previous facility to fire. Rental rates for the ice surface are:

  • Prime time (adult): $160/hour
  • Prime time (youth): $120/hour
  • Non-prime time (adult): $120/hour
  • Non-prime time (youth): $80/hour
  • Drop-in rate: $4

Large events, such as adult hockey tournaments, must pay a 50 per cent booking fee up front and a $400 damage deposit. Full-day use of the arena space is listed at $1,000, while installing ice surface covering costs an additional $1,500 per event.

Non-ice surface rink (summer use)

In the off-season, the arena’s concrete pad becomes a versatile venue for dry-floor events. Summer rental rates include:

  • Prime time (adult): $40/hour
  • Prime time (youth): $30/hour
  • Non-prime time (adult): $30/hour
  • Non-prime time (youth): $20/hour
  • Full-day youth event: $400
  • Full-day general event: $800
  • Tables and chairs setup: $200/event
  • Bringing dirt in/out: Negotiated based on needs

Summer events also follow the same 50 per cent booking fee and $400 damage deposit structure.

Fieldhouse rates – InnovationPlex

Known as the InnovationPlex through a sponsorship by Innovation Federal Credit Union, the fieldhouse features a wide range of flexible athletic and event spaces. Rental rates are:

  • Full fieldhouse: $200/hour or $1,000/day
  • Individual court: $40/hour
  • Full court (three courts combined): $100/hour
  • Indoor track: $40/hour
  • Drop-in rate: $4/hour
  • Turf removal/installation: $1,500/event
  • Tables and chairs setup: $200/event

Legacy Hall event centre

Legacy Hall, sponsored by local donors including Kurt and Terry Prete, serves as a venue for banquets, meetings and community gatherings. Rates are:

  • Full-day rental: $800/day
  • Meetings (up to three hours, no food): $150/event
  • Stage removal: $100/event
  • Tables and chairs setup: $200/event

Like other facility spaces, bookings require a 50 per cent deposit and a $400 refundable damage deposit.

Seymour emphasized the importance of setting rates proactively.

“We want to have rates in place if people are interested in renting the fieldhouse once it’s up and running … so we don’t have to scramble around trying to figure things out,” he said.

“We’re just trying to make a proactive approach so people know what’s going on and what the cost of the various places in the facility will be.”

Funding primarily came from insurance proceeds after the fire and an approximately $27.3 million grant from the federal and provincial governments through the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program, along with community fundraising efforts.

“This new facility … being able to attract not only people from within our community but surrounding communities to host different events — something that Meadow Lake has never had to host — we’re really looking forward to the opening,” Seymour said.

The facility was named the Co-op Centre to honor a $3 million donation from the local Meadow Lake Co-op. Its grand opening is expected to be in September once all systems are in place.
