SaskEnergy to power volunteer program for 2026 Sask. Winter Games

SaskEnergy has been announced as the official volunteer sponsor for the 2026 Saskatchewan Winter Games — the first-ever edition jointly hosted by a municipality and a First Nation.

The Crown corporation will help recruit, train and recognize the hundreds of volunteers needed for the Games, which will run Feb. 15–21, 2026, in the City of Meadow Lake and Flying Dust First Nation.

“[SaskEnergy’s] commitment to service and community aligns perfectly with our vision for these Games,” said Games manager Brittani Dunsing in a statement on Oct. 23.

“Together, we will engage volunteers of all ages and backgrounds, celebrate their contributions, and ensure our athletes, coaches, officials, and visitors experience exceptional Saskatchewan hospitality.”

SaskEnergy has supported provincial summer and winter games for more than two decades and is marking the 25th anniversary of its Champion of Volunteers program, which has distributed more than $2.4 million to non-profit and charitable groups across Saskatchewan.

Meadow Lake MLA Jeremy Harrison, the minister responsible for SaskEnergy, said the partnership reflects the government’s broader commitment to community strength and safety.

“The Saskatchewan Winter Games are a celebration of athletic excellence, community spirit and collaboration,” Harrison wrote.

“SaskEnergy’s role as the Official Volunteer Sponsor reflects our government’s commitment to ensuring our communities are safe and strong while keeping our future secure.”

SaskEnergy president and CEO Mark Guillet said volunteers are at the heart of every successful event.

“Their dedication reflects the spirit of community that defines our province,” Guillet said.

“We’re honoured to stand behind them and celebrate the impact of volunteerism in Saskatchewan.”

Volunteers will be needed for a wide range of duties — from ceremonies and transportation to venue operations and athlete services. Training will be provided, and no prior Games experience is required.

Community members can learn more or register in person at three upcoming events:

• The Meadow Lake Fall Supper on Oct. 26 at Civic Centre
• The SaskEnergy Volunteer Kick-Off Event on Nov. 5 at Moeller Hometown Arena
• The Holly Berry Craft Show on Nov. 22 at InnovationPlex Field House

The 2026 Saskatchewan Winter Games will mark a historic milestone as the first to be co-hosted by a First Nation and a municipality, with events taking place across both Meadow Lake and Flying Dust First Nation throughout the week-long celebration of sport.
