Table Mountain opening uncertain as mild temperatures stall snowmaking efforts

Nov 20, 2025 | 5:08 PM

Skiers and snowboard enthusiasts in the area may have to wait a little longer to get their first run in at the ski hill.

Table Mountain aims to be open during the first week of December every season; however, this year the warmer conditions may cause a later start date. The general manager at Table Mountain said, at this point, it is a guessing game for when the hill will open.

“We’re hoping for early December, but that’s weather dependent,” said Lawrence Blouin. “We need probably minus 15 to minus 20 at night to be able to make snow.”

A meteorologist at Environment and Climate Change Canada said model data shows the temperature for the remainder of the month staying above normal.

“As the models go out further in time, there is basically an equal chance of being above or normal for temperatures, and there’s not a lot of correlation for precipitation for the winter,” said Danielle Desjardins.

While the short-term models are showing one thing, the long-term looks a little different. Environment Canada predicts this season will be a La Niña winter, which typically means colder weather and snowier conditions.

Blouin is hoping that forecast comes to fruition.

“It would be nice to get the snow in and get the place open so people can enjoy the area through December right through until the end of March,” he said.

The resort sits on 45 acres of ski terrain and Blouin said this season guests can expect to see new equipment included in one portion of the hill.

“We’re bringing in some more rails and some equipment and stuff for the terrain park. So, there’ll be some new features going on in the park,” he said.

Season tickets for the ski hill are currently on sale and recommended for guests planning to visit more than 10 times this winter.
