Two Saskatchewan residents receive Order of Canada appointments
A businessman and philanthropist originally from Biggar, and a lawyer, author and activist from Maple Creek have received a prestigious recognition.
Her Excellency the Right Honourable Mary Simon, Governor General of Canada, appointed Wayne Richard Brownlee and Michelle Frances Good to the Order of Canada. They were two of 80 new appointments made in what is described as the ‘cornerstone of the Canadian Honours System.’
Brownlee, who has previously been awarded the Saskatchewan Order of Merit and a USask Alumni Lifetime Achievement Award, is being recognized for his leadership as the former CFO of Potash Corp, where he guided its evolution to Nutrien. He and his wife, Ina-Lou Brownlee, are also known for giving back through the Brownlee Family Foundation. Their $10 million gift to the Saskatoon Public Schools Foundation’s literacy program in recent years is considered one of the largest donations in Saskatchewan history towards education.
