Team SJHL takes Gold at Viking Cup

Jan 4, 2026 | 11:39 AM

Tylan Henrikson (Yorkton Terriers) tied the championship game with 14.4 seconds left, and Ethan Andrews (Estevan Bruins) buried the OT winner as Team SJHL claimed the Viking Cup with a 5-4 win over SAIT on Saturday.

A team of all-stars primarily born in 2005 and 2006 represented the league and showcased their talents to post-secondary institutions. The event that took place in Camrose, AB had been on hiatus since 2006, so Team SJHL became the first team to win the Viking Cup in 20 years.

Anthony Campbell (Battlefords North Stars) started the comeback in the final by tipping home Rylan Williams’ (Estevan Bruins) third period wrister. Russ Demo (Kindersley Klippers) and Gavin Granger (Battlefords North Stars) also added goals for Team SJHL, while SJHL alums Colby Bear and Owen Underhill had goals for SAIT. Brady Holtvogt (Humboldt Broncos) made 26 stops in the win.

In a post game interview, forward Van Eger (Kindersley Klippers) said he couldn’t be happier with the group of players who came together to form Team SJHL.

“Great group of guys. We’re all 20 besides Holtzy and a couple other guys may be 19, but even on the bus up here, there was about 12 of us on the bus and we were already playing cards together and I knew right then and there we would be such a close team and right off the bat there we were winning. So it was awesome to see.”

Eger said the fact Team SJHL had success at the tournament which featured older and more experienced players proves how good of a league the SJHL is with ‘a lot of top prospects in Canada.’

Demo was named the tournament’s Top Defenceman and Zayden Sadlemyer (Melfort Mustangs) was named a tournament all-star.

Team SJHL went 4 and 0 in the round robin.

There were five teams in the competition including one from Czechia, EU and another from Nebraska, USA.
