Highway 55 rehabilitation project moving ahead in Meadow Lake for 2026 construction season

Meadow Lake is moving ahead with rehabilitation work along a section of Highway 55 after city council approved entering into an agreement with Saskatchewan’s Ministry of Highways.

The project falls under the Urban Highway Connector Program and focuses on repairs to the concrete pad area along Highway 55 within city limits. Council authorized the City Manager to execute the agreement.

The rehabilitation has already been approved as part of the city’s 2026 budget, with $1,506,434 allocated to the project. Under the agreement, 70 per cent of the cost will be covered by the Ministry of Highways, while the city is responsible for the remaining 30 per cent.

The work will replace approximately 198 metres of concrete along the Highway 55 concrete pad at the intersections with Centre Street and First Street West.

Administration first brought the proposal to council in September 2025, when it was approved in principle. The latest decision allows the formal agreement to be signed so the project can proceed during the 2026 construction season.

According to the report presented to council, signing the agreement is required to advance the project. Administration will also confirm with the ministry which party will be responsible for tendering.

Highway 55 is a connector route running through Meadow Lake. The rehabilitation is intended to address the condition of the concrete pad and support ongoing roadway maintenance within the city.

Council documents state the approved budget allocation will be used to complete the project. With funding confirmed and the agreement authorized, construction is expected to move forward during the upcoming building season.
