Saskatchewan’s largest online auction rebrands as SaskBids.ca, launches new sale Wednesday

Online bargain hunters across Saskatchewan are being encouraged to update their bookmarks as one of the province’s largest internet auction platforms unveils a new name and website.

The auction site, previously operating under several different names depending on the region, has consolidated under one all-encompassing domain: SaskBids.ca. The new site serves as the central hub for Pattison Media online auctions in Prince Albert and area, the Battlefords area, and the northeast, including Melfort.

Market manager for the Battlefords and Meadow Lake, Mike Aimoe, said the biggest change is the name and domain, making it easier for users across Saskatchewan to find and access auctions in one place. While the platform has upgraded its software, the auction process itself remains the same.

Each auction features inventory and credit notes provided by local businesses in exchange for advertising.

“Bidding starts at just $1, and there are no auction house fees or additional credit card processing charges. Winning bidders simply pay their final bid amount plus applicable taxes,” Aimoe said. “We have about $550,000 worth of inventory and credit notes up for auction.”

Auctions are held every quarter. Some of the highlights this time around include an $11,000 trailer in the Prince Albert auction,  $10,000 grain auger in the northeast, a Jacuzzi Kodiak Cold Plunge Contrast Therapy Tub valued at $7,495 in the northwest and a 2022 Jeep Compass Sport valued at $19,200.

While some items have sold for as little as a few dollars in past auctions, Aimoe said a large number typically sell for around 60 to 70 per cent of their retail value — offering significant savings for bidders.

The new auction launches Wednesday morning at approximately 9 a.m., with bidding set to begin closing at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 24.
