Man, woman arrested on drug charges after trying to run from police
A man and woman from the Prince Albert area are behind bars following a game of cat and mouse with police that began outside Meadow Lake and ended in Loon Lake.
It happened on April 17 at around 1:30 p.m. when members of the Meadow Lake RCMP attempted to pull over a vehicle with an expired license plate on Highway #55, east of Meadow Lake.
Instead of stopping, the vehicle sped off and fled from officers, continuing to evade police as it was spotted on Highway #4 near Meadow Lake and again on Highway #304 near Loon Lake. Later investigation determined that it was around this time that the suspect vehicle had swapped drivers.
Shortly after, the vehicle was spotted again in Loon Lake by local RCMP where the driver, later identified as 31-year-old John Carter from James Smith Cree Nation, fled on foot. Meanwhile, three women were arrested at the scene, including the initial driver, 21-year-old Marissa Nateweyes from Prince Albert. A police dog with Meadow Lake RCMP was used to locate Carter, who was arrested after a brief search.
