Online sales of stolen construction goods lead to charges in Lloydminster

A Lloydminster man is facing multiple charges after RCMP linked a series of construction site break-ins to stolen property being sold online.

The local RCMP’s Crime Reduction Unit began investigating on April 28 after several active construction sites reported break-ins and thefts.

Officers were alerted to items being sold through an online platform, and with assistance from the public and the local detachment, identified a male suspect.

Police later observed the suspect conducting a sale in the area of 31 Street and 57 Avenue, where he was arrested.

“Following his arrest, police confirmed the man had exchanged one of the items reported as stolen for cash.”

A search warrant was subsequently executed at the man’s home, leading to the recovery of nearly $16,000 worth of stolen property. Much of it has already been returned to local businesses.

Now, a 35-year-old man from Lloydminster is charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 for the purpose of trafficking, possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, and two counts of trafficking in stolen property under $5,000.

The investigation is ongoing as officers continue working to return recovered items to their rightful owners.
