Finding Anna: Calgary woman traces family history to Meadow Lake
What began as an effort to create a family history book for her children led one Calgary woman on an emotional journey to Meadow Lake in search of a relative.
Six months ago, Janelle Paul began researching her family’s Russian ancestry. As she traced generations of relatives, she noticed one family member was almost entirely absent from the records – an aunt who died at just one month old.
“We knew of her, but we didn’t know anything about her. So I started snooping in the cemeteries in and around Meadow Lake, cause I knew that’s where they homesteaded.”
Eventually, Paul found a name: Anna.
