Marsh also asked participants to watch for parking signs when entering the viewing area to help prevent vehicle headlights from interfering with people’s night vision.

“Be prepared to stay up as late as you like because the later in the night, the better the meteor shower gets, and if anybody wants to pull an all-nighter, they’re welcome to,” he said.

If clouds prevent stargazing Saturday night, community members will instead be invited to join Marsh and other volunteers for a night hike. If it rains, however, the gathering will be called off.

Whether visitors stay for a few meteors or make a night of it, Marsh said the event is meant to be simple.

“It’s just a low-key, friendly get-together and enjoy the sky kind of a deal.”
