Slow down, police say as students head back to school
Summer is over, which means students across Saskatchewan are heading back to class — and police will be looking for speeding drivers in school zones.
The single biggest thing people can do to keep students safe is obey the speed limit, which is 30 km/h unless otherwise posted, said Insp. Lee Knelsen, operations officer for Saskatchewan RCMP Traffic Services.
“We’re hoping that we can get that message out that, again, speed, speed, speed is our contributing issue,” Knelsen said. “We want to make sure that the public’s aware of that and takes that into account.”
Last year, RCMP officers and Combined Traffic Services Saskatchewan issued more than 1,200 tickets and warnings in school zones and around school buses.
