Melville pedestrian death pushes road fatalities to 87: Sask. RCMP
A 73-year-old woman is dead after being hit by a vehicle near Melville, marking the 87th fatality on Saskatchewan RCMP-policed roadways so far this year.
Her death on Oct. 2 adds to a growing provincial toll, with Mounties reporting a total of 72 crashes resulting in 87 deaths on roads as of Monday morning.
Saskatchewan RCMP said in a news release on Oct. 5, that officers from the Melville detachment were called about the crash on Highway 10 roughly nine kilometres northeast of Melville around 7:10 p.m.
When they arrived, emergency medical services personnel found the woman severely injured, and she was pronounced dead at the scene. Police confirmed she was a local resident from the surrounding Melville detachment area. Investigators have since notified her family.
