Vancouver officer tells hearing Myles Gray was strongest man encountered in career
VANCOUVER — A Vancouver police officer has told a public hearing into the fatal arrest of Myles Gray that he was the strongest man he has ever encountered in 15 years of policing.
Const. Beau Spencer told the hearing in Vancouver on Friday about his role in the events of Aug. 13, 2015, that began with an “unnerving” call for assistance from a colleague who encountered the man on a residential street in Burnaby, near the Vancouver boundary.
Spencer said he knew Const. Hardeep Sahota and her tone of voice on the radio call raised immediate concern, while an “animalistic roar” he later heard as he and his partner headed to the scene was like nothing he had ever heard on a police radio.
He is among seven Vancouver officers facing a public hearing set off by B.C.’s Police Complaint Commissioner into whether they committed misconduct during the confrontation, which ended with Gray’s death.
