Concerned residents want action taken with northern Sask. suicides
As an urgent means of addressing the number of suicides and suicide attempts in northern Saskatchewan, a series of community meetings are being held in various locales.
Holly Toulejour from La Loche and Ali Woods from Michel Village have been busy connecting with community members and scheduling town hall type meetings. The first was held last Thursday in Michel Village.
The pair is organizing what they hope will be a large meeting of leaders from across the northern portion of the province – town, village, and band councils included. The event will take place at the Buffalo Narrows Community Complex on Sept. 6 at 6 p.m.
“We’re sending a call out to all leaders – all mayor and councils and chief and councils – in the North, up to Green Lake,” Toulejour said. “The goal of this meeting to urge the leaders to get us to a place of safety and stability which is always a goal in mental health.”
