UPDATE: Firefighters remain on scene of grain elevator fire

Nov 30, 2016 | 5:35 AM

UPDATE: A grain elevator continues to burn in Turtleford after a late-night fire.

Four members of the Turtleford Fire Department remain on scene, monitoring the building, according to a news release from the town of Turtleford and R.M. of Mervin Fire Association.

The release says it’s fortunate the structure only collapsed into itself, as there was concern it may affect the local Co-op grocery store.

According to the release, losing the grain elevator is a huge loss to the town, because it was the final connection to the railway.

There were 32 members on site overnight from the local town of Turtleford and R.M. of Mervin Fire Department, with backup from the St. Walburg and Glaslyn Fire Departments, as well as members from the RCMP and Sask Power.

There is still no information on what caused the fire.

Fire departments from the town of Turtleford and the R.M. of Mervin responded to grain elevator fire in Turtleford Tuesday night.

Photos submitted to 650 CKOM show flames and heavy smoke pouring out of the structure.

Highway 26, which was closed overnight has since reopened.

No word on what caused the fire or the extent of damage.

Turtleford is located 90 km northwest of North Battleford.
