Teen described as dangerous escapes from North Battleford Youth Centre

Jul 22, 2016 | 6:25 AM

A teen has escaped from the North Battleford Youth Centre.

His name is Sundance Mentuck. He’s described as 5-11, 150 pounds with an average build. He has brown hair and eyes.

He is considered dangerous because of the violent crimes of which he was convicted.

Mentuck was on escorted leave with two custody workers to attend a funeral on the Red Pheasant First Nation.

“We’ll do an internal investigation to determine what’s occurred, determine how he was able to escape, you know, was policy followed, should policy be followed”, explained Drew Wilby with the Ministry of Corrections. “Our job now is to investigate whether those were followed, to investigate whether our policies were strong enough to make sure this youth was secure on that escorted leave and if there are areas that we could strengthen we will look to do so.”

Anyone with information as to the whereabouts of Mentuck should contact the RCMP, local police service or 911 immediately.
