Aurora Cinemas to undergo full renovation

Aurora Cinemas in Meadow Lake will be going through big changes on May 17. The theatre is expected to close for three weeks for renovations.

Owner Tom Hutchinson said the renovations “will reach every part of the cinema.”

The theatre was recently bought by Rainbow and Magic Lantern Cinemas in early March. As part of the purchase, the company renamed the theatre from Dynasty Twin Cinemas and will be making improvements to the theatre and replacing all older furniture and equipment.

The equipment changes include updating the sound system to have a full six channel audio as well as fixing the walls in between the two screening rooms to reduce “sound bleed.”

Amber Ambroziak, the manager of Aurora Cinemas, is selling the theatre’s seats and ice machine online.

It wasn’t long before Clay Debray, the manager for the Flying Dust First Nation arena, got in touch with the theatre after seeing the post with an idea to repurpose the seats.

“The price was good so I contacted Amber and asked if I can purchase every seat that’s in the theatre,” he said.

Debray said the Flying Dust arena doesn’t need new seating but is always looking at ways to upgrade the building. “This way we wanted to give a little bit more comfort to our spectators that are coming for our hockey and other events.”
