Saturday topped the temps across the region

If you didn’t get out and about on Saturday you might want to kick yourself because another warm day like that likely won’t show up until the spring.

Several daily temperature records were set across the province for Nov. 23, according to Environment Canada, thanks to the warm south-westerly winds and some cloud cover.

“We saw 21 records fall across Saskatchewan and that included highs as well as record high overnight lows,” Meteorologist Terri Lang said.

Among the records were Waskesiu Lake area where the high reached 7.6 C, beating the 7.2 C set in 2005. Spiritwood area had a high of 8.8 C, topping the 8.3 C recorded in 1956.

Prince Albert enjoyed a 9.6 C day but that fell well short of the daily record of 14.4 C set way back in 1890. Many other cities in our region don’t have record data that goes that far back which Lang suggested was a reason for many of the new milestones.

Elsewhere across the wider region North Battleford experienced a particularly balmy 10.6 C, exceeding the 10 C from 1956. North Battleford has been keeping weather data since 1879.

Meadow Lake made it to 9.1 C on Saturday which far surpassed the 7.8 C from 2005, and Buffalo Narrows was 6.7 C, over two full degrees higher than the 4.6 C set in 2005.

As for the relatively warm overnight Saturday into Sunday La Ronge recorded its highest temperature after dark for Nov. 23 at -0.7 C. Melfort was a pleasant -1.1 C overnight.

But it looks like what was left of the warm late autumn is all over.

“We’re back to more seasonal values for this time of year,” Lang said. “[And] it’s going to feel cold because we kind of got used to those really nice temperatures.”
