John Carl Hofer was born on July 9, 1932 to John Sr. and Annie Hofer in Landis, Saskatchewan and passed away on April 9, 2020 surrounded by his family at his home in Goodsoil, Saskatchewan.
John was the oldest son of 10 children, having 3 sisters and 6 brothers.
In 1955 John married Lydia Grassl at the St. Boniface Church in Goodsoil and settled on the former Anton Bruck homestead in Flat Valley, Saskatchewan. Together they raised 4 children. Brenda, Caron, James and Gordon.
John was never a stranger to hard work taking on many tasks including making lumber, driving truck, custom combining, and fixing mostly anything to name a few. John took great pride in his farming and was actively helping where he could until his passing.
John and Lydia resided on the farm until 1993 when they moved to their home in Goodsoil where John also took on the roll as mayor for 6 years.
Many will remember John’s love of auction sales as well as his love of a good card game with his family and friends.
Until we meet again……..
In tears we saw you sinking,
We watched you fade away,
You suffered much in silence,
You fought so hard to stay,
You faced your task with courage,
But still you kept fighting
Until the very end.
God saw you getting tired
When a cure was not to be
So He put His arms around you,
And whispered, “Come with Me”
So when we saw you sleeping
So peaceful, free from pain,
We could not wish you back
To suffer that again.
