Aug 4, 2020 | 1:21 PM

Meadow Lake’s Chamber of Commerce along with the City of Meadow Lake are hosting its first Bike Rodeo and a Car Seat Clinic this week to promote safety in the community.

Jackie Toews, chamber organizer told meadowlakeNOW everyone in the community is urged to participate.

“It’s something different for the kids to do,” Toews said. “There’s lots of kids out now and perhaps they don’t know the ropes.”

The event entails a youth bicycle course including a figure-eight track and a zig-zag course to test the bicycle’s handling. A Meadow Lake RCMP member will be in attendance to offer information about bicycle safety including how to signal when turning and how to safely stop. Bicycles will not be tuned up at the event.

“We’d like to see a turnout,” she said. “We’re going to try once a week to plan an event for kids and families in the community.”

Meadow Lake’s Community Safety Officer Joe Hallahan will also demonstrate how to safely install car seats for infants.

Joshua Kirilenko, 14, of Sweet Treatz ice cream cart will be at the event selling drumsticks, popsicles, and freezies ranging from $1 to $3.
