Province records 14 new cases of COVID-19, releases numbers on active youth cases

Oct 1, 2020 | 2:24 PM

The province has recorded 14 new cases of COVID-19 and released its weekly report on active cases involving children and youth in Saskatchewan.

The new cases are located in the North Central (one), North East (one), Central East (five), Regina (four), South West (two) and South Central (one) zones. The total amount of reported cases is now at 1,927.

Of the total cases, 144 are considered active. A total of 1,759 people have recovered with nine more recoveries recently added to the total.

“Our new cases are trending up and we were expecting to see this, especially as schools open and our economy re-opens, but we need to make sure we do everything that we have been doing to keep this curve as flat as possibles,” said Saskatchewan’s Chief Medical Health Officer Dr. Saqib Shahab during a press conference Thursday afternoon.

“The first thing we need to recognize is that schools in general reflect the community, so if community transmission rates remain extremely low (then) we expect to see very few cases in school.”

Seven people are in hospital receiving inpatient care. Four patients are in Saskatoon, one is in Regina, and two are in the South West.

Of the total cases, 291 are travellers, 944 are community contacts (including mass gatherings), 564 have no known exposures and 128 are under investigation by local public health.

Across the province, 73 cases are healthcare workers (although not all sourced their infections from work). There are 331 cases involving people aged 19 years old and younger.

There are 634 cases in the 20 to 39 age range, 589 in the 40 to 59 age range, 309 in the 60 to 79 age range and 64 in the 80-plus age range.

Fifty-one per cent of cases are females and 49 per cent are males.

There are 24 deaths related to COVID-19 reported to date.
