SaskEnergy conducting controlled flares this week

SaskEnergy has scheduled a series of controlled flares in the province’s northwest area as part of scheduled maintenance work on its transmission system.

The first flare will occur Oct. 13 from 4 a.m. to 10 a.m. six miles Northeast of Shellbrook and West of Prince Albert, near the south end of McLeod Road.

On Oct. 14 from 2 a.m. to 10 a.m., the corporation will conduct a controlled flare six miles Northeast of Leoville and one mile southwest of Debden.

On Oct. 15 from 4 a.m. to 10 a.m. there will be a flare eight miles South of Goodsoil and half a mile north of Rapid View.

Such flares occur as part of pipeline maintenance; SaskEnergy releases natural gas in a controlled burn. Residents and drivers may see up to a 40-foot flare emitted from the flare stakes attached to SaskEnergy block valves. The area around the flares will be supervised, the corporation said in a media release.
